Jason han trainee teaching award
The Jason Han Trainee Teaching Award is an award sponsored by Dr. Jason Han, one of TSMA's founding resident advisors. This award will be given annually by the TSMA to an outstanding resident/fellow pursuing cardiothoracic surgery in recognition of his or her commitment to medical student education and mentorship. Each year, medical students in North America are eligible to nominate a resident or fellow who has demonstrated a remarkable interest in teaching and mentoring medical students — inside or outside of the operating room. From the nominated trainees, the winner will be selected and presented with the award.
Recipient, 2026
Dr. Matthew Duda, M.D.
At the time of the award, Dr. Duda completed his clinical year PGY-3 at Stanford and is now completing his second of three total years of professional development time. He will be returning to clinical training as a PGY-4 in cardiothoracic surgery at Stanford in June 2027.

Dr. Clayton rust, M.D.
At the time of the award, Dr. Rust completed his clinical year PGY-2 at Emory and is now completing his second year of clinical research. He will be returning to clinical training as a PGY-3 in general surgery.

Dr. Arjune Dhanekula, M.D.
At the time of the award, Dr. Dhanekula was a PGY-7, clinical 5th year at UW in cardiothoracic surgery.

Dr. Justin robinson, M.D.
At the time of the award, Dr. Robinson was completing his PGY-3 year in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Maryland.

Dr. Jessica Ruck, M.D.
At the time of the award, Dr. Ruck is completing her PhD as a PGY-C3R3 in the general surgery residency program at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Dr. Aravind Krishnan, M.D.
At the time of the award, Dr. Krishnan is a PGY-4 in the integrated cardiothoracic surgery residency program at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Inaugural Recipient, 2023
Dr. Linda Schulte, M.D.
At the time of the award, Dr. Schulte is a senior cardiothoracic surgery fellow at the Washington University in St. Louis. Hailing from Seattle, Dr. Schulte graduated Washington University with two Bachelor's in Poetry and Biochemistry. She completed her medical education at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where she also went on to complete her general surgery residency. Dr. Schulte is highly invested in educating and mentoring students both inside and outside the OR, and TSMA is incredibly excited to honor her as our inaugural recipient of the TSMA Teaching Award.
