Amartya Dave

Amartya is originally from the Chicagoland area and attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he earned his degree in bioengineering. Currently, Amartya is a fourth-year student at the UCSF School of Medicine. Amartya was a 2023 AATS Summer Intern Scholar and is interested in applying his background in engineering and innovation to better inform decision-making in cardiac surgery. He is passionate about mentorship in surgery and aims to reduce barriers to high-impact advice and valuable resources by collaborating with the talented team at the TSMA. Outside of school, you can find Amartya playing volleyball, sight-reading music on his viola, and playing along to his favorite bands on the electric guitar.

Josette Vidal Medicielo

Josette grew up in California and Nevada and was the first in her family to attend college. She earned her degrees at the University of Nevada, and is now at the Medical College of Wisconsin hoping to pursue academic surgery.

As a 2025 AATS Summer Intern, she studied the lung cancer diagnostic journey, patient self-advocacy, and disparities in screening and diagnosis. She continued her involvement with AATS as a 2026 Member for a Day and Annual Meeting Social Media Ambassador. Her research interests span topics from thoracic to breast oncology. She also serves on the Association for Academic Surgery Technology & Communications Committee and remains involved in community health and health equity efforts.

Coming from a first-generation, low-income background with no roadmap to medicine, Josette’s path has been shaped by mentors who believed in her potential and helped make an unfamiliar path feel possible. Their impact has inspired her to pay that mentorship forward. Returning for her second year on TSMA’s Mentorship Committee, she hopes to help aspiring cardiothoracic surgeons find the sense of belonging that has been so meaningful in her own journey. In her free time, Josette enjoys strength training, cooking, food-inspired travel, and learning new languages.

Kwadwo Amoako-Boadu

Kwadwo Amoako-Boadu is a medical student at Weill Cornell Medicine, Class of 2028,
with a strong commitment to mentorship, diversity, and health equity. He earned his
Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Psychology from the City College of New
York, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude, was a member of the Honors College,
and received the 2021 Ernesto Malave Merit Award. At Weill Cornell, Kwadwo serves as
the Mentorship Director for CODE BLOOM, a program that connects Hunter College
pre-medical students with medical student and faculty mentors, and as the Diversity
Chair of the Medical School Executive Council (MSEC), where he advocates for student
needs and supports inclusive programming.

Most recently, Kwadwo was selected as a Mentorship Committee Member for the Thoracic Surgery Medical Student Association (TSMA), where he contributes to national initiatives that expand access, foster meaningful mentor-mentee connections, and support aspiring cardiothoracic surgeons from diverse backgrounds. His leadership spans academic medicine, community engagement, and pipeline development—making him deeply invested in fostering access and representation in surgical fields.

Germaine Harvey

Germaine Harvey is a third-year medical student at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine with a career interest in academic Cardiothoracic Surgery. His involvement in the field includes Cardiothoracic and Thoracic surgery research, clinical exposure, and leadership as Vice President of Research for Loyola’s Cardiothoracic Surgery Interest Group. His broader interests lie at the intersection of surgical innovation, medical education, mentorship, and the expansion of opportunities for students pursuing careers in medicine.

Mentorship has remained a central part of Germaine’s journey, from serving as a chemistry supplemental instructor and resident assistant to developing mentorship initiatives for medical and premedical students. He is particularly passionate about creating sustainable mentorship systems that connect students with the guidance, resources, and relationships needed at different stages of their training.

As a member of the TSMA Mentorship Committee, Germaine looks forward to collaborating with students and Cardiothoracic Surgery professionals nationwide to strengthenmentorship opportunities, foster meaningful connections, and help make the pathway into Cardiothoracic Surgery more accessible and supportive for the next generation.

Pedro Colón

Pedro is originally from Puerto Rico and attended MIT, where he majored in Chemistry and Biology. He is currently a 4th-year student at NYU Grossman School of Medicine pursuing an MD/MBA, with an expected graduation in 2027. His research in cardiothoracic surgery has spanned reviews in bicuspid aortic valves, institutional QI projects for the adequate follow-up of aortic aneurysm patients, and comparative outcomes between DCD and DBD heart transplants.

Beyond his research, he has served in his school’s student council, co-founded the High Value Care Club, and is deeply committed to mentorship. He has established a network for students across the U.S. and Puerto Rico interested in cardiothoracic surgery, aiming to help them better understand and navigate the field on the island.
