Ervin Cui

Ervin Cui is a medical student at the University of Toledo College of Medicine & Life Sciences with a Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering from The Ohio State University. He has been extensively involved in cardiothoracic and transplant research, with interests spanning heart and lung transplantation, ex-vivo organ perfusion, and outcomes research using national datasets. Clinically, Ervin is passionate about the full spectrum of cardiac surgery and the care of complex cardiothoracic patients, with a strong interest in research aimed at improving clinical decision-making through data-informed approaches.

In his free time, Ervin enjoys hiking and is working toward a personal goal of visiting all 63 U.S. National Parks, having already explored 13. As a member of the Networking and Outreach Committee, he values mentorship, collaboration, and networking, and is excited to help connect students with mentors and future colleagues.

Ethan Chetkof

Ethan Chetkof is a third year medical student at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He previously completed his undergraduate education at the University of Pittsburgh, and is originally from Long Island, New York.

Ethan’s interest in cardiothoracic surgery fostered at a young age, developing through relationships with his own surgeon and physicians after being born with Transposition of the Great Arteries. As he has further engaged with surgeons in multiple disciplines throughout medical school, Ethan has developed a strong appreciation for the history, science, and professional diversity across the field of cardiothoracic surgery.

Mentorship is important to Ethan – he is a 2025 STS Looking to the Future Scholarship Awardee, and his mentors have served as an important guiding force for him throughout his exploration of the field. Additionally, Ethan has also been a willing mentor for his junior medical school colleagues and undergraduates, believing it important to pay forward lessons learned. He is excited to engage with this value as a member of the TSMA Networking and Outreach Board.

Ethan also enjoys volleyball, snowboarding, and hopes to someday see a game in all 30 MLB ballparks.

Anish Katta

Anish is a third-year medical student at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He completed his undergraduate studies at Vanderbilt University, where he developed his early interest in cardiovascular surgery. His research has focused on congenital cardiac and valvular surgery, with interests in decision analysis, long-term outcomes, and disparities in care. At Case Western, Anish served as president of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Interest Group and was part of the Human Rights Initiative Leadership Team, helping provide medical evaluations for asylum seekers. He is also a member of the World Medicine Pathway, where he is exploring his passion for global health and learning about approaches to expand access to cardiac surgery worldwide. Long-term, he aspires to become a cardiac surgeon with a career that integrates clinical innovation, mentorship, and global health.

Outside of medicine, he enjoys swimming and discovering local restaurants and coffee shops. He is excited to serve as co-chair of the TSMA Networking and Outreach Committee and looks forward to helping connect students and expand opportunities for those interested in cardiothoracic surgery.

Stacey Odoi

Hello, my name is Stacey Odoi, a 3rd year medical student at St. George’s University School of
Medicine, with a growing interest in surgery and a passion for leadership, mentorship, and
building meaningful connections within medicine.

Originally from Ghana, I developed a strong appreciation for the importance of creating
supportive communities that help medical students explore different career paths and connect
with opportunities beyond the classroom.

At St. George's University, I was involved in student leadership and advocacy, experiences that
have continued to strengthen my interest in bringing students together and creating
opportunities for professional growth early in their medical training.

As a member of TSMA’s Network and Outreach Team, I hope to help expand the organization’s
umbrella, strengthen connections between medical students and cardiothoracic surgeons, and
create accessible opportunities for mentorship, networking, and career exploration. I am
particularly excited to contribute to initiatives that help students build relationships and gain a
clearer understanding of the different pathways into cardiothoracic surgery.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy a good session at the gym and spending time with family.

Kevin Xiao

Kevin is from Dayton, Ohio, and attended Emory University where he majored in biology and chemistry. Currently, he is a third-year medical student at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. During medical school, he conducts clinical outcome research as well as translational research under the mentorship of Dr. Bryan Whitson, the chief of Division of Cardiac Surgery at The OSU Wexner Medical Center. Driven by a deep passion for cardiac surgery, he aims to innovate new treatments for advanced heart failure and transplant patients. His inspiration stems from his own transplant research discoveries as well as hands-on experiences gained through the OSU Wexner Cardiothoracic Scholar Program. In his free time, he enjoys staying active through workouts, running, range shooting, and engaging in motorsports.

As a co-chair of the Networking Committee, he is privileged to work alongside motivated peers and is eager to contribute to TSMA's mission of attracting and supporting the growing cohort of students interested in cardiothoracic surgery.
